A Cookie Exchange Makeover: Host A Chex Party Mix-Change (Giveaway)

This holiday season I had the opportunity to host a Chex Party Mix-Change . I was provided with recipes, 5 boxes of Chex, $20 for party supplies, cute little to-go boxes, invitation templates, and party ideas by Chex through Myblogspark.com.

The idea of a Chex Party Mix-change is to cut out the holiday stress of a neighborhood cookie exchange by having a big get together instead and swapping treats while enjoying everyone’s company. The Chex mix theme really cuts down on a lot of stress and time because it is so easy and fast to make. You can make most flavors of Chex Mix in fifteen minutes using your microwave! Everyone who attends just brings their own bowl of Chex mix to share and at the end, everyone goes home with their own little container of Chex Mix. I was shocked by how many different flavors there are. Click here to see a list of flavors and ideas for making Chex mix.

I had so much fun trying to figure out how much Chex mix I could make out of 5 boxes. Let me just tell you: A LOT! I made 5 different flavors and still had tons of cereal left over. I was surprised that everyone who attended brought a different flavor. The table was PACKED full of Chex mix. Some of my favorites that my guests brought were Spicy Asian Chex Mix, Apple Pie Snack Mix, BBQ Chex Mix, Lemon Pistachio Cranberry Muddie Buddies, Nutella Hazelnut Muddie Buddies, Honey Ginger Chex Mix,and Double Chocolate Chex Mix. 

It was a fun party and a fun idea that I would never have thought of on my own. I encourage everyone to throw their own holiday Chex Party Mix-Change. My friend Jen made this yummy looking jumble of goodness. It had M&M’s, Candy Corn, Oreos, Pretzels, Sprinkles, White Chocolate, Milk Chocolate, and Chex:

Take a look at some of the flavors I made for the party:

HOT BUTTERED “YUM”

Ingredients:

• 4 C. Honey Nut Chex
• 2 C. Cinnamon Chex
• 1/4 C. butter
• 1/4 C. packed brown sugar
• 2 TBSP. honey
• 3/4 tsp. ground cinnamon
• 1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg
• 1/4 tsp. ground cloves
• 1 tsp. rum flavoring
• 2 C. mini marshmallows

Directions:

1. In large microwavable bowl, place cereals. In 2-cup microwavable measuring cup, microwave butter, brown sugar and honey uncovered on High 2 minutes, stirring after 1 minute, until mixture is bubbly. Stir in spices and rum flavoring. Pour over cereal mixture, stirring until coated.

2. Microwave uncovered on High 3 minutes, stirring and scraping bowl after every minute.

3. Cool slightly; about 5 minutes. Stir in marshmallows. Spread on waxed paper. Store in airtight container.

CHILI LIME

Ingredients

• 8 C. corn Chex
• 1 C. corn nuts
• 1 C. bite-size cheese crackers
• 1 C. mini pretzel twists
• 1 C. corn chips
• 6 TBSP. butter
• 1 TBSP. lime juice
• 1 tsp. lime zest
• 2 tsp. chili powder
• 1/2 tsp. garlic powder
• 1/2 tsp. onion powder
• 1.8 tsp. cayenne

Directions:

1. In large microwavable bowl, mix cereal, corn nuts, crackers, pretzels and corn chips. Set aside. In small microwavable bowl, microwave butter uncovered on High about 40 seconds or until melted. Stir in lime juice, lime zest and seasonings. Pour over cereal mixture, stirring until evenly coated.

2. Microwave uncovered on High 5 to 6 minutes, stirring thoroughly every 2 minutes. Spread on paper towels to cool. Store in airtight container.

PUMPKIN PIE CRUNCH

Ingredients:

• 1/4 C. brown sugar
• 1 TBSP. pumpkin pie spice
• 1/4 C. butter
• 2 tsp. vanilla
• 2 C. Cinnamon Chex
• 2 C. Wheat Chex
• 2 C. Honey Nut Chex
• 8 oz. pecans

Directions:

1. In small bowl, mix brown sugar and pumpkin pie spice; set aside. In small microwave-safe dish, microwave butter on High about 30 seconds or until melted. Stir in vanilla. In large microwavable bowl, mix all cereals and pecans. Pour butter mixture over cereal mixture, stirring until evenly distributed. Add sugar and spice mixture and stir until coated.

2. Microwave uncovered on High 5 minutes or until mixture begins to brown, stirring every minute. Spread on wax paper or a cookie sheet to cool. Store in airtight container.

PINK POWDER PUFF CRUNCH (STRAWBERRY CHOCOLATE MUDDIE BUDDIES)

Ingredients:

• 9 C. Rice Chex or Corn Chex
• 1 1/2 C. semisweet chocolate chips
• 1/3 C. Butter
• 1 tsp. vanilla
• 1 1/2 C. powdered sugar
• 1 box strawberry-flavored gelatin

Directions:

1. Measure cereal into large bowl.

2. In 1-quart microwavable bowl, microwave chocolate chips and butter uncovered on High 1 minute. Stir; microwave 15 to 30 seconds longer or until mixture can be stirred smooth. Stir in vanilla. Pour over cereal, stirring until evenly coated.

3. In 2-gallon large food-storage plastic bag, mix powdered sugar and gelatin. Add cereal mixture. Seal bag and shake until well coated. Spread on waxed paper; cool about 15 minutes. Store in airtight container.

 

PEANUTTY SQUARES

Ingredients:

• 1/2 C. light corn syrup or honey
• 1/4 C. sugar
• 1/2 C. creamy peanut butter
• 6 C. Corn Chex or Rice Chex
• 1/2 C. salted peanuts

Directions:

1. Butter 9- or 8-inch square pan.

2. In 3-quart saucepan, heat corn syrup and sugar just to boiling over medium heat, stirring constantly. Remove from heat.

3. Stir in peanut butter. Gently stir in cereal and peanuts until evenly coated. Press firmly in pan. Let stand 1 hour. For squares, cut into 6 rows by 6 rows. Store loosely covered.
