I actually made these cookies quite awhile ago, but I have been waiting to post them because I think they are so perfect for Valentine’s Day. I actually made them for a book club that I attended. We read the book Daddy Long Legs by Jean Webster. It was written in 1912 and it was a super cute book about a young woman who writes letters to a man she doesn’t not know, but who is paying for her college education. She nick names him Daddy Long Legs because all she has seen of him is his shadow, in which his legs are very long.
I made envelopes, lace hearts, and letters. These cookies have letters from the book written on them, but you could write anything on them. How about a romantic love letter to your significant other? A fun note to your kids? Or something sweet for your sibling?
To make the love letter cookies, simply out line and flood a rectangular sugar cookie with white royal icing. Let it dry over night and use Americolor food markers to write your message. These markers are amazing.I am in love with them. They write just like real markers on so many surfaces. Don’t mess with the cheap Wilton four pack. Just buy these. Click HERE to see them on Amazon. Be careful not to let the ink smear before it dries.
To make the letters, flood and outline a rectangle sugar cookie with white royal icing. Let it dry. Use thick outlining icing to outline the lines of the envelope. Use thick pink royal icing and a small star tip to make little icing flowers on a piece of parchment paper. Place an edible pearl in the center of the flower. Let the flower dry and place it on the seal of the envelope with a dab of white icing.
To make the hearts, outline and flood heart sugar cookies in pink. I mixed in the tiniest bit of orange to make it more of a coral pink. Let dry. Use Wilton Color Mist in Pearl to lightly mist the cookies. You could skip this step if you don’t want them to shimmer. Use white outlining royal icing to pipe lace onto the heart. The lace isn’t as hard as it looks. I followed the tutorial by The Adventures of Sweet Sugar Belle. Click HERE to see her lace tutorial.
