I had great plans for the new year. So many healthy recipes and tips on eating healthy. I promise I was working on a really great post about healthy food. I had every intention to post it today. I got a little bit side tracked. Chocolate Peanut Butter cake will do that to a person. The Ohio State Buckeyes were playing in the National Championship game last night and I just had to make a super awesome themed dessert to take to my next door neighbor’s house where we were going to watch the game. This wasn’t one of my scheduled posts, but since the Buckeye’s won I think I will celebrate by sharing this cake with you!
I love where I live. Columbus, Ohio is awesome. And Columbus people are have some CRAZY Buckeye Spirit! Here are a few things I have noticed since living here:
-During a game, stores are practically empty.
-If you randomly yell “O-H” nobody will think you are weird, but everyone will yell back “I-O”
-Many people will say “Go Bucks” instead of “goodbye”
-The Michigan Rivalry is huge. During the week of the Michigan game “M’s” all over town are covered up. Anything blue is banned from practice facilities. The hospital was giving new babies born that week red blankets that had “BEAT MICHIGAN” embroidered on them.
-The day of the National Championship, a local BBQ restaurant was selling roast duck just for that day, and it was sold out by dinner time.
-Everyone eats buckeye candies (a peanut butter and chocolate candy that resembles the inedible buckeye nut), everyone wears buckeye necklaces, and everyone loves Brutus the Buckeye (the Ohio State Mascot).
So, in the spirit of the Buckeyes, I made this really awesome cake. It has two layers of chocolate cake and one layer of peanut butter cheesecake. It has a chocolate glaze between each layer and the whole thing is covered in peanut butter frosting and more chocolate glaze. And as if thats not enough, I topped the whole thing off with a ring of homemade Buckeye candies. It was good, guys. Really good.
I’m not going to post the recipe, because I used recipes from a couple other bloggers to create this beauty, so I can’t claim it as entirely my own. But it was just too good not to share! So I am just going to give you the links:
- The Peanut Butter Cheesecake, Peanut Butter Frosting, Chocolate Glaze, and Assembly Instructions were from Buns in My Oven. Click HERE for the recipe.
- The Chocolate Cake was from Add a Pinch. Click HERE for the recipe.
- The Buckeye Candy recipe was from Home Stories A to Z . I halved the recipe and still had lots of leftovers. I loved the muffin tin idea and freezing the toothpick in the peanut butter for easy chocolate dipping! Click HERE for the recipe.
Bake the cheese cake first so it has time to set and cool. While its baking, make the chocolate cake batter and split between two 9 inch pans. Then start the Buckeye’s so they have time to freeze before dipping. Keep them in the freezer or fridge until topping the cake. Then make the frosting and the glaze. Assemble the whole thing according the directions on Buns in My Oven and top with the Buckeye candies. Keep in the fridge until ready to serve.
I can’t wait to make this again for Basketball season!
GO BUCKS!
Go Ohio State! This is a cake worthy of the national championship game they played (we were all cheering :). I am so impressed! But not surprised–you make everything you bake "satisfying and delicious."
Beautiul, beautiful! Who cares how it tastes! It looks like something out of the kitchen at Downton Abby!
