This was the first thing I made with my ice cream maker. It definitely wasn’t traditional gelato, but it was still yummy. It was very fruity. Very yummy. For best results, I suggest putting it in the freezer for about 45 minutes before churning in the ice cream maker.
Ingredients:
- 1 C. sugar
- 1 C. milk (whole milk is best)
- 3 C. ripe chopped peeled mango (about 2 mangoes)
- 2 C, passion fruit nectar
- 1-1/2 C. half-and-half
Directions:
- combine sugar and milk in a medium saucepan. Bring to a boil, stirring until the sugar dissolves.
- Place sugar mixture and mango in a blender, process until smooth.
- Create an ice bath. Fill a large bowl 2/3 of the way with ice and add a few cups of water. Place a smaller metal bowl inside the ice. Pour the blended mango mixture into the bowl floating in the ice. Cool completely.
- Add the passion fruit nectar and half-and-half. In the same metal bowl, chill in the fridge for at least 3 hours or in the freezer for about 45 minutes. Don’t forget about it though, you don’t want it to freeze.
- Churn according to your ice cream maker’s instructions and freeze in a air-tight container.
